IL RE

IL RE

The miller and his wife invite a priest, a fortune teller, and a lawyer to their mill to help them solve the miller's family problems. The daughter Rosalina has cooled toward her fiancé Colombello and changed her mind about marriage. The visitors' advice is contradictory and ineffective. Thanks to her mother's entreaties, the girl confesses that a few days ago she saw a handsome king during a royal hunt and fell in love with him; moreover, a soothsaying bird predicted the future, in which the girl is a queen. The parents, hearing the story, became disheartened, fearing that their daughter would waste her youth dreaming of unrealistic happiness and a royal life. The fiancé Colombello promises to die if Rosalina does not return to him. Suddenly a herald's voice is heard announcing an audience with the king for those who bring food to his palace. The miller and Colombello go to the king for help.
